Terracotta Saucer Coasters

If you are looking for a coaster that won’t spill condensation everywhere, we got you! These little coasters are such a life (or should we say furniture) saver. They not only keep everything dry, but they help keep glasses from tipping over as easily. They hold up incredibly well too. They can be left as the original orange and sealed or painted any color that works for your décor. These cottagey little coasters will definitely impress.

Step 1: Gather supplies.

  • 4 inch terracotta saucers ( We used 4)
  • Base paint (Either a spray paint or a paint on enamel like rustoleum)
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Pencil
  • Sealer ( mod podge for example)
  • Protective pads for the bottom

Step 2: Paint on your base coat. It only took us two layers but it will take more if you are spray painting. Let it dry completely before moving on.

Step 3: Pick your designs. We wanted to go with something simple and cottagey for this project so we did green wreaths with simple black and white images in the middle.

Step 4: Before you start painting away some people may find it helpful to sketch out what you want you image to look like. For this we just used a pencil but you can also use tracing paper.

Step 5: Pick your colors. It helps to pick out the main color scheme. We ended up only using 4-5 colors and mixing then for a cohesive palette.

Step 6: We started with our wreaths to make it easier to size the middle image but do what you like. Adding layers of color can help give you a depth as well. Then we added in our little images. It really helps using white to help “erase” anywhere that the black went astray. A little water on a clean paint brush can help remove any paint that has fully cure.

Step 7: Once you have your little paintings all done. We are ready to seal. This step is critical to protect the painting. The coaster is totally fine on its own, but we used a water-based paint for the images so make sure to do a couple coats of sealers.

Step 8: Finally add the little protective pads to the bottom to protect your furniture. This isn’t really necessary but a nice precaution.

How adorable are these little guys? We have a sweet little four pack of coasters. The coasters were only about $2.50 a piece and you can make as many or as few as you need. These make great gifts and are a great way to add a little extra personality to your living room.
