Halloween Ghost Banner

Hello all you spooky season enthusiasts out there! We just can’t get enough of the fall season. We just happened to see this adorable ghost banner in a store and thought to ourselves, “we can craft that!” So, that’s exactly what we did!

Step 1: Gather your supplies:
-Stiff black felt
-White felt
-Cotton string of your choice ( we chose black and white)
-Fabric glue
-Needle and thread or embroidery floss
-Heat erase pens
-Black fabric marker ( optional)
-Cardboard or scrapbook paper to make stencils ( we like to keep some recycled cardboard boxes for this purpose. Cereal boxes, cracker boxes, etc. You’d be surprised how handy they are to have lying around)

Step 2: Draw and cut out your stencils. You’ll need one for the flag shape and some for your ghosts. It doesn’t matter what size flag you use or how many different ghost shapes you use. It all depends on what you’d like to do. There is no right or wrong answer. Our flag was 4” high by 3” wide.

Step 3: Trace your flags with your heat erase pens on your stiff black felt.

Step 4: Cut them out. We used our handy dandy fabric shears for this, they make quick work of cutting felt. They are a fabulous craft tool!

Step 5: Do the same thing with your ghosts on your white felt.

Step 6: Using your fabric glue adhere the ghosts to the flags. Don’t worry about all the pen marks ( that’s why we use the heat erase pens!) Using a heat gun or blow dryer erase any visible pen marks.

Step 7: We used a black fabric marker to add some cute little eyes and mouths on our ghosts. But, you could also cut them out with your black felt and glue them on with your fabric glue.

Step 8: This step is optional. We wanted to add some more pizzazz to our flags by adding some white stitching. We used a running stitch and some white embroidery floss to go around the edge of our flags.

Step 9: Using your fabric glue attach the string to your flags. You can either put the string to the back of your flags if you want it more hidden or put it towards the front if you want it to be more of a feature. We love the look of the black and white string so we chose to put it towards the front.

And that’s it! Now you have a simple but so cute ghost banner for Halloween. This project is relatively simple but so darn cute! It doesn’t have to be for just Halloween either. You could use the same concept and just change the colors/ images on the flags. How pretty would it be to do little pumpkins on a burlap background for fall? It would make a wonderful gift for someone too! Happy Halloween!
