No- Sew Curtain Hack

Hello fellow crafters! We have been slowly changing out all the outdated and impossible to clean blinds that have plagued one of our homes since we moved in. They just don’t fit our style anymore. The kitchen window was the last one to make the transition. We wanted the white linen curtains to match the other ones in the rest of the main living area. But, the manufacture that we purchased them from didn’t make the short length we needed we also prefer not to have grommets in this window. So, we had to improvise and alter them to fit our window using this no-sew curtain technique.

Step 1: Gather your supplies:

Your curtain
An iron ( We LOVE this iron for more detailed craft work.)
Witch stitch also called hem tape
Fabric shears or scissors
Measuring tape
A heat erase pen or a regular pen

This is the original curtain which is fine but not what we want.

Step 2: Measure your window. We found it easier to figure out the length we needed while the curtain rod was up. It helped us visualize where the curtain would be and where we wanted it to sit on the window.

Step 3: We knew we didn’t want to use the grommets that came already sewn into the curtains so we used our fabric shears to cut those off first.

Step 4: Measure and mark where you want the top of your curtain to be. We used a heat erase pen so when we ironed it the marks would disappear. But, you can use whatever pen you have and do your best to cut the marks off.

Step 5: We wanted to have a decorative cuff on the top of the curtain so we folded the top over and pressed it with our iron so that it stayed in place.

Step 6: Lay your witch stitch under the fold and iron over it to finish the cuff. You can either use it as a channel for your curtain rod or do what we did and use decorative curtain hooks. It just depends on the look your trying to achieve.

That’s it! Now you have curtains that are the exact length that you want them to be. Yes, we could sew them but sometimes you just don’t want to do all that. This was so easy we may just go crazy and start changing them out for the holidays. Why not? It wouldn’t be the craziest thing we’ve ever done when it comes to craft projects. Happy crafting!
