Hello to all the crafters out there! We don’t know about you but spring really makes us want to focus and create things for the outdoors. When the weather is perfect it seems to inspire ( along with Pinterest of course) our creative minds to spend as much time outside as possible. So, when we saw this idea for a painted Volkswagen bus plater we knew it would be a fabulous addition to one of our backyards which is decorated in a beachy aesthetic.
Step 1: Gather all your supplies:
- Cinder block
- Acrylic paints
- Paint brushes
- A sharpie or marker
- Clear spray paint or sealer
- Potting soil
- Plants ( Real or faux)

Step 2: Draw out your design with a marker.

Step 3: Now it’s time to get to painting. We did two coats of each color so that everything was nice a vibrant.

Step 4: Add any extra details. We decided to add some black accents such as a car emblem, windows and doors, etc. Also we added some flowers and animal paw prints sprinkled about just for fun. Doesn’t it really make our bus extra cute?!
Step 5: Seal your planter. We chose to use a clear spray pant by restoleum. It’s been our go-to sealer for years.

Step 6: Once your planter is dry you can add your potting soil and plants. We chose to do faux foliage because it’s not in a convenient spot to water. But, real plants would be great too! Possibly some succulents so that they don’t require a lot of watering. But, it really depends on the look your going for.

That’s it! Now you have a unique planter that is not only stinking adorable it is also functional. You could make this any color that matches your space. You could even make the license plate a family name or saying that means something to your family. Have fun with it! Happy crafting!
