Painted Spice Jars

Painted Spice Jars

Hello all you fellow cooking enthusiasts! We don’t know about you, but we think there’s just something special about cooking when your space is organized and aesthetically pleasing. We had been seeing these beautiful glass refillable spice jars all over Pinterest. What a fabulous idea! So, of course we had to jump on the band wagon. But, in typical fashion we had to take it up a notch. Not only did we want these awesome spice jars… we also decided to paint them. We figured why not make some painted spice jars?

Step 1: Gather your supplies:

  • Glass spice jars ( we purchased ours off amazon) there are so many styles to choose from out there. Pick ones that speak to you and work for your kitchen. We liked the ones we bought because they came with labels and everything you would need to fill them up with spices.
  • Glass paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Dishwasher safe mod podge

Step 2: Figure out your design. What works best for your space? Do you have a farm house kitchen? Or possibly modern? Or do you just love the color yellow? The possibilities are endless really. Do whatever gets your creativity going!

Step 3: Start painting. Now the fun really begins! We cut small pieces of white printer paper to place inside our empty jars just to make the images easier to see when were working on them.

Step 4: Add more coats if needed. We’ve found that the glass paint takes several coats ( depending on the look your going for). We ended up doing two coats of each color.

Step 5: Add your final details. We decided to do a few different patterns that all work together to add some interest. You could certainly just do them all the same. Or you could do each one different. That’s the beauty of doing this yourself. You get to make them exactly how you want them!

Step 6: This is optional… but we painted a design on the bamboo lids. We don’t do anything small.

Step 7: Paint on your sealer. We like the dishwasher safe version from mod podge. We’ve found that it doesn’t really make things “dishwasher safe” but you can definitely hand wash things without a problem. Just follow the directions on the back of the container. You can basically just let them air dry ( you’ll need your patience because it takes close to a month) or you can bake them in the oven.

That’s it! Now you have some really cool painted spice jars! These would make excellent gifts too! Who wouldn’t love a set of these? After all, if you have to cook every day you might as well be surrounded by things that make you smile right? Happy cooking!
