Do you love to spoil your four-legged family members? We sure do! We have gone so far as to throw them birthday party’s complete with party hats, gifts, cupcakes just for them and even a pinata. Being one of our pets has it perks for sure! So now our pups and their friends expect these peanut batter cupcakes every year. They are so easy to whip together and are sure to be a hit!
Step 1: Gather your ingredients:
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- ¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 1/3 cup honey
- ½ cup shredded carrots
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
For the frosting:
- 4 ounces of cream cheese
- ½ cup peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon of milk ( plus a bit more if the consistency isn’t quite right)
Tools needed:
- muffin pan ( regular or mini depending on your pooches)
- cupcake liners
- cookie scoop ( this is optional but it helps keep your cupcakes consistent)
- mixing bowl and spoon
- Stand mixer or hand mixer if your doing the frosting

Step 2: Preheat your oven at 350 degrees. While your oven is heating up mix all your ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
Step 3: Line your muffin pan with your cupcake liners. You can do regular muffins or mini muffins depending on your dog’s size. Our dogs have both big dog friends and small dog friends so we’ve done this recipe in each size. They come out great either way! Just be aware that the baking time may change if you do mini cupcakes.
Step 4: Fill up your cupcakes with your badder. These cupcakes don’t expand much like a regular cupcake so we fill them up almost to the top. We like to use a cookie scoop so they look more consistent but you could just use a spoon. It’s completely up to you. We can get 6 good size cupcakes out of one batch so we usually double the recipe. Our dogs have very active social lives and lots of friends.
Step 5: Bake your cupcakes for 20-25 minutes depending on your oven. Let them cool and then remove them from your muffin pan.
Step 6: Frosting your cupcakes is optional. We like to frost them and garnish them with a dog treat like a milk bone. But, the dogs are not picky either way. The frosting is easy to do. All you have to do is whip the cream cheese and peanut butter together with a mixer and add your milk. Depending on the consistency you can add a bit more milk. We like to pipe ours with a piping tip so we like the frosting to be a little softer. After all, our dogs and their buddies deserve the best!
